Sensitive skin needs oils to relieve and prevent irritation.
We use: tamanu, sunflower, argan, olive, pomegranate, watermelon, red raspberry, meadowfoam, hemp, and rosehip in our blends for sensitive skin. Carrier Oils for Custom Blends lists each oil and their properties.
We are not referring to rosacea, eczema, or allergic contact dermatitis which are commonly mistaken for sensitive skin. Sensitive skin is not a medical diagnosis, and we do not specifically target or treat these skin issues.
Do I Have Sensitive Skin?
Your skin is sensitive if it is easily affected by the environment. Your skin also may be sensitive if it reacts to seasonal changes, synthetic fragrances and colors, and detergent soaps.
Sensitive Skin Characteristics
When we say sensitive, we mean skin that is simply sensitive to the environment. Seasonal temperatures and humidity changes, very hot water, detergent soaps, synthetic fragrances and colors, preservatives, alcohol (used topically), and other artificial additives cause irritation or inflammation, which leads to red, blotchy, and itchy skin. It is important to try to find your triggers so you can avoid them. Sensitive skin will respond positively to specific skincare products. Sensitive skin may exhibit the following characteristics:
- Reacts quickly to both heat and cold.
- Sunburns and wind burns easily.
- Skin is often dry, delicate, and prone to allergic reactions that produce redness, itching, burning, and dryness.
- Dry, itchy, tight, flaking, or peeling skin:
- Usually due to dryness, common causes of dry skin itch are cold, dry weather, wind, harsh skincare products and washing with very hot water.
- Redness:
- Can take form of a red rash, red bumps, blushing, and flushing.
- Stinging and burning:
- Especially when using detergent based soaps or gels, products with alcohol or artificial fragrance, and strong acne or anti-aging products.
